“Good Girl Gone”
This is more of a personal one.
I’ve realised this week that when you want to build something meaningful there are things you need to protect above all else:
Your values.
Your energy.
Your lightness.
Values
Without your values, you don’t know who you are and what you want to stand for.
You adapt to the people and expectations around you, you please your way through life and business. You may be loved in many places, but is it right, that love?
What if you weren’t… loved? By someone, by something. Would it truly hurt you? And the business?
Maybe not. Maybe it would even help. Enemies of enemies become friends and that kind of stuff.
Energy
Without your energy, you can’t build. Without boundaries, your will to initiate new stuff evaporates like water in a hammam. It’s suffocating. Of course you want to sit down.
This week I’m realising (once more) that that means you shut the door on people, and on projects. Your ideal project can’t please everyone. Your ideal customer can’t be everyone.
Even when you scale, you want to stand for something. Especially when you scale, you want to be very clear on what has the permission to keep you up at night.
The art of doing it lightly
And then there’s an art to being okay with detaching from those people, projects and opinions. To letting go of the weight, its heaviness.
There’s an art to realising you’re not going to be perfect anymore, not ‘good’. It’s an ever bigger art to not even try to be.
It feels as if you’re doing something wrong. But I’m realising that every decision can be ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ depending on the story we tell ourselves and others about it.
Right and wrong no longer exist. Decisions do. And those who are brave enough to make’m signal clarity, and as a consequence, they find each other.
And what do you know, like-minded people make things lighter.
“Good Girl Gone, Hello Business”
“Good Girl Gone” is very personal. And I’ll certainly slip up again, but it’s the only way my business stands a chance.
Cheers to values, energy and the art of lightness.
